News – Champagne FM – Discover the common school uniform that will be tested in Reims

This will be one of the new features of the next school year, the experimentation of a common outfit in voluntary establishments*.

A project that was launched by Gabriel Attal, while he was still Minister of National Education and Youth, in the fall of 2023.

In Reims, 850 children will take part in this test, which is scheduled to last two years.

The first week back at school, elementary school students will receive a set of five light gray polo shirts, two navy blue sweaters and two navy blue sweatshirts.

Kindergarten students will be given two smocks.

Each piece will have a badge created in consultation with students.

It represents the silhouette of the winged Victory of the Subé fountain, on a background of fleurs-de-lys and academic palms.

Two other symbols of the school appear on the shield, two pencils and the formula “1+2 = 3”. Around the shield, we find the words “City of Reims” and the national motto, “Liberty, Equality, Fraternity”.

On the other hand, students will be able to freely choose the bottoms they wish to wear.

School outfits are free for families.

They are financed half by the city of Reims, and the other half by the State.

In Reims, the initial allocation of common school uniforms represents a cost of around €140,000.

A public contract was awarded to select an equipment supplier from among 12 possible ones.

Finally, the outfits will be made in India and Madagascar.

A new call will be launched next year.

“The uniform is a tool to create cohesion, to show belonging to an educational community. I think it is an additional tool, not the only one. There are obviously many other ways to develop social skills,” says Véronique Marchet, first deputy mayor responsible for education, sustainable schools and youth.
