Condolences from Mayor Enzo Lattuca for the death of Monsignor Giorgio Biguzzi

“The passing away of Monsignor Giorgio Biguzzi, Bishop Emeritus of Makeni, Sierra Leone, saddens us and brings us closer to his family and to the Diocese of Cesena-Sarsina, represented by Bishop Douglas Regattieri. Monsignor Biguzzi, who For years he has worked on important projects related to children and young people in Sierra Leonewas a point of reference for the Cesena community and his missionary spirit consolidated the faith of many, becoming an example for many.

Born, raised and educated in Cesena, this illustrious fellow citizen of ours continued his spiritual and life journey in Parma, in the city of Udine, until arriving in the United States. In 1974, as a Xaverian missionary, he was sent to Sierra Leone, where from 1975 to 1977 he was rector of the Minor Seminary of the Diocese of Makeni and at the same time held the position of vice regional of the Xaverian District of Sierra Leone, where, as residential bishop of the Diocese, he remained until 2013.

We are grateful to him for having sided with the most fragile, the child soldiers of the small African state and for having guaranteed many of them a growth and education far from the atrocities of war. He fought for the rights of children, always looking to their future. From this teaching we will continue his work, committing ourselves to a future of rights for young people”.
