Heavy downpour this morning in Benevento: the capital of Sannio woke up enveloped by an intense storm that in twenty minutes literally swept away lights and stalls that had been set up for the Madonna delle Grazie, which is celebrated today. Damage was also caused in via Torre della Catena and in via Posillipo: street lights uprooted by the wind, which blew with violent intensity at the same time as the rain. Firefighters had to rush from both sides of the town to secure the damage.

In Torrecuso, a tree knocked down by the wind ended up on a passing car: fortunately, no injuries to the car’s occupants, apart from a great fear. Blackout in Ponte, while in the Vitulanese Valley there are floods in several streets. The weather alert, valid until 10 pm today, continues: in fact, “local or scattered rainfall is expected, including showers and thunderstorms, punctually of moderate intensity, especially in the internal sector”. The weather will improve in the next few days, while for the moment the damage is being counted. The summer, after all, is expected to be particularly rainy. Professor Adriano Mazzarella, Meteorologist and Physicist, former associate professor of Climatology at the Federico II University of Naples, had already explained this, who in an interview with Fanpage.it explained that “the amount of rain that fell until May, below the seasonal cumulative, suggests a rainier summer than usual because somehow nature will have to provide for the imbalances of the past months”
