Waste fire in the “land of fires”, a 30-year-old of Roma origins identified and arrested. The Carabinieri of the Investigative Unit of Environmental, Agri-food and Forestry Police (NIPAAF) of Naples and the Company of Giugliano in Campania have arrested a 30-year-old of Roma origins, living in the nomad camp on Via Carafiello in Giugliano in Campania, believed to be responsible for the large fire of special waste, including hazardous waste such as WEEE and car parts, started in the morning and only put out yesterday afternoon by the Fire Brigade, after several hours of work.

The billows of smoke – as stated in a note from the Prosecutor’s Office of North Naples signed by Deputy Prosecutor Anna Maria Lucchetta – were visible for miles, black as the soul of the waste set on fire in the area behind the nomad camp on Via Carafiello, with the flames poisoning the air for hours, dispersing the toxic product of combustion into the atmosphere and into the lungs of the residents.

The Carabinieri, coordinated by the Prosecutor’s Office of Naples North, immediately got to work on the origin of the fire, even before the fire surrendered to the water. The military personnel of the Operational Section of the Giugliano Company and of the NIPAAF of the Carabinieri Forestale Group of Naples, after careful investigation and inspections, identified the person responsible, who was stopped a few hours later inside the Roma camp. The arrested person was taken to prison, awaiting his appearance before the judge, to answer for illegal burning of waste.
