In a desperate attempt to escape the siege, police captain Viorel is captured by the army and thrown into an empty swimming pool along with hundreds of prisoners accused of being terrorists. Premiered at the Transilvania Film Festival 2023, Libertà was then selected for many international festivals including Sarajevo, Cottbus, Thessaloniki and Trieste. The so-called revolution of 1989 is, among the events of our recent history, the one that more than any other has yet to be fully understood. This is one of the reasons why I wanted to accurately recount the total confusion that reigned among the population at that time. The truth at the time was deliberately hidden and the manipulation of reality had become a habit. My generation thus developed a psychosis towards the so-called terrorists: they could be Arabs, Russian spies or agents of the Securitate, the secret services.

The media convinced the population that these ‘terrorists’ really existed and had become the enemy… Now, 30 years after those events, we know that those terrorists did not exist… They were invented in an attempt to justify the inefficiencies of the army and the decisions taken against the collective interest. (T. Giurgiu)SATURDAY, JULY 6, 2024, SALA CINECITTÀ 4:30 pm Screening of the film ‘GENTE PER BENE’ by Paul Negoescu (Romania 2022). A Q&A session with Romanian actor Iulian Postelnicu will follow. Participation in the screening of the film is free, subject to availability, upon confirmation of registration at the email address: [email protected] screenplay, written by Radu Romaniuc and Oana Tudor, with the latter also playing the protagonist’s ex-wife, focuses on Ilie (Iulian Postelnicu), a middle-aged policeman from a small rural village in northern Romania, whose professional challenges seem to be limited to settling drunken conflicts in the local tavern and ignoring the questionable actions of the mayor who buys the goodwill of the villagers by investing money of mysterious origin in the welfare of the community. Unlike many, Ilie is not interested in moving to the city, but he cultivates the dream of buying an orchard. Life in the village is characterized by calm until a murder occurs. Because Ilie and his new colleague Vali, who has just graduated from the police academy, have very different opinions on how the investigation should proceed. Good People sets a trap for their protagonist who will soon make the wrong decision. Or maybe it’s the right one? 7:00 pm Screening of the film ‘A SNAGOV’ by Cristian Comeag? (Romania 2024). A Q&A session with the Romanian director will follow. Participation in the screening of the film is free, until all available seats are filled, upon confirmation of registration at the email address: [email protected] world we live in is divided in all its aspects: there is a world of rich people and a world of poor people; a world of awake people, who swim, and another of asleep people, who float numb until they sink; a world of manipulators and a world of manipulated people; a world that decides destinies and a world that suffers its own destiny decided by others; a world of crafty people and a world of fools. A handful of influential individuals, gathered in a ‘paradise’ reserved for the powerful, hidden from the eyes of many, are preparing the election of a possible future president of the country, a president that many await with a mixture of hope, mistrust and resignation. The film collects all these elements and places them side by side in a chilling overall picture, because, from the fragments of a changed present, A SNAGOV articulates a simple and serious question: what comes next? SUNDAY, 7 JULY 2024, SALA CINECITTÀ 4:00 PM Screening of the film ‘WAR BOY’ by Marian CRI?AN (Romania 2023). A Q&A session with the Romanian director will follow. Participation in the screening of the film is free, until all available seats are filled, upon confirmation of registration at the e-mail address: [email protected] Autumn, 1944. The Second World War is coming to an end. Nicu, a teenager, embarks on a journey through the wilderness of the Apuseni Mountains, trying to save his family’s horses. The film Warboy starts from the memories of my grandfather Nicolae Popa, who in 1944-1945 was a teenager in the service of a rich man for whom he transported wood from the mountains with the help of horses. There were days, even weeks, when my grandfather had to live alone in the forest, taking care of those horses. In those years he witnessed the passage of Romanian, German and then Russian soldiers through the forests and the area of the mountain village where he lived. I imagined a scenario that would bring together all these elements in a coming-of-age story about the life of a teenager through whose eyes I wanted to decipher the meanings of the end of the war. (M. Cri?an) 6:30 pm Screening of the film ‘THE DREAM’ by C?t?lin Saizescu (România 2023). A Q&A session with the Romanian director will follow. Participation in the screening of the film is free, until all available seats are taken, upon confirmation of registration at the email address: [email protected] by true events, the film directed by C?t?lin Saizescu, with a screenplay by Gabriel Gheorghe, is a comedy in which an actor’s dream seems to crumble, while the dreams of those around him or the inmates with whom he puts on a play seem to be closer to fulfillment. Alex, a provincial actor, unhappy in his relationship and dissatisfied with his collaboration with a famous director who prefers another actor, is sent by the director of the theater to direct a show with some inmates of the prison, under the supervision of the prison police officers. In addition to the auditions for the show A Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare (the comedy of the craftsmen), the inmates organize an escape plan. Hence the title of the film. The ways of life are infinite and Alex has a nervous breakdown that forces him to abandon the realization of the play. The comedy Il Sogno, directed by C?t?lin Saizescu, is the first Romanian feature film shot in the Rahova penitentiary, with the support of the Romanian Penitentiary Administration, and tells, among other things, the power of art to transform people and destinies.Organizers: Romanian Embassy in the Italian Republic, Dacin Sara Association of Bucharest, National Center of Cinematography of Bucharest and the Romanian Academy in Rome With the patronage of: Presidency of the Culture Commission of the Chamber of Deputies and the Department of Culture of Rome Capital In partnership with: Casa del Cinema – Rome, European Library – Rome and Digital World Printing – Rome Media Partners: AskaNews, Agenzia Cult, Agenzia Radicale, Agenzia Nova, Agerpres, Romeing, Gazzetta Diplomatica, Giornale Diplomatico, 2duerighe, Radio Roma, Radio Sapienza, Radio România Actualit??i, Radio România Cultural, Radio Romania Internazionale, Cinematografo, CineCorriere, CineMonitor, Film4life, Il Nuovo 7 colli, Il Pensiero dell’Arte, Abitare a Roma, Rome International and RoZoom Press.
