On the evening between June 30 and July 1, 2024, this Piazza Guido Monaco was the scene of a violent brawl between two opposing groups, both composed of non-EU citizens. The clash, which began for trivial reasons with bare hands, resulted in the injury of a foreign man, who suffered a head injury and was rescued by health workers alerted by the intervening carabinieri and urgently transported to the local civil hospital. The injured man, who actively participated in the violence, was reported at liberty.
During the heated brawl, the Carabinieri of the Operational and Radiomobile Nucleus of the Arezzo Company, already present in the area for a control, in the context of a greater presence in the central areas of the city during the evening and night hours, intervened promptly. The military, witnessing the clashes directly, managed to quell the aggression and immediately arrest at least three people involved in the disturbances. The lightning-fast action of the two patrols involved therefore made it possible to prevent further escalations of violence and more serious consequences for those involved in the incidents.
Yesterday, late in the morning, the detainees appeared before the Court of Arezzo, which validated the arrest carried out by the judicial police, ordering, against the defendants, the precautionary measure of the obligation to present themselves and sign, twice a day, at the offices of the Carabinieri of Arezzo.
The other participants in the brawl are currently being investigated and investigations are ongoing to identify them and report them to the Judicial Authority.
This refers to respecting the rights of the persons under investigation, to be considered presumed innocent in consideration of the current phase of the proceedings – preliminary investigations – until a definitive determination of guilt with an irrevocable sentence, and in order to ensure the constitutionally guaranteed right to report.
