Edison, through its subsidiary Edison Rinnovabili, has built 7 new photovoltaic plants in Piedmont, in the provinces of Alessandria and Turin, for a total capacity of 45 Megawatts. With the entry into operation of these plants, Edison confirms its growth path in the development and construction of new renewable capacity, which plans to invest 5 billion euros between 2023 and 2030, to increase the green installed capacity from the current 2 GW to 5 GW.

Four of the seven new plants built have entered into operation in recent months; three instead, whose work was completed in 2023, are awaiting connection to the national electricity grid, which should occur by the end of 2024. In addition to these, there are two other photovoltaic plants, previously in Edison’s portfolio, in the province of Alessandria and in operation since 2011.

The nine plants have a production capacity of 70 GWh per year, capable of satisfying the energy needs of 26 thousand families and avoiding the emission into the atmosphere of over 30 thousand tons of CO2.

Edison informs has started a collaboration with the municipalities surrounding the plants to implement projects such as the redevelopment of green areas, the planting of trees, the installation of e-bike charging points, road signs, street furniture and energy efficiency activities for lighting fixtures. With the delivery of this additional 45 MW in Piedmont, Edison confirms its commitment to achieving the objectives indicated in the strategic plan to 2030, which includes investments of 10 billion euros over the decade. At the end of the plan, the portfolio of activities will see renewable electricity generation represent over 45% of the group’s profitability, services to industrial and domestic customers and the public administration will contribute approximately a quarter, gas and thermoelectric production will represent 30%.
