Center-Right Mayors of Umbria: New Coordination for the Future

Center-right Mayors – Yesterday in Todi, a lively meeting marked the birth of the Coordination of Center-Right Mayors of Umbria. This event saw the participation of the mayors of numerous cities, including Todi, Orvieto, Umbertide, Deruta, Amelia, Torgiano, San Gemini, Citerna, Bettona, Cannara, Gualdo Cattaneo, Giano dell’Umbria, Otricoli, Castel Ritaldi and Porano. Other mayors, including those of Nocera Umbra, Gubbio, Foligno, Trevi, Acquasparta, Polino, Tuoro sul Trasimeno and Stroncone, expressed their interest and willingness to join this initiative, with the aim of carrying forward the ideas of good administration and good governance of the center-right.

During the meeting, the results of the recent local elections and the development prospects for Umbria were discussed. In recent years, the Center-right component of local administrators has contributed to the stability, development, rebirth and growth of the region, achieving electoral successes that once seemed unattainable.

Despite some setbacks in the last elections, due more to the candidates’ difficulties in tuning in with the electorate than to a lack of administrative effectiveness, the history of successes and results that has transformed the region cannot and must not be erased. This history has opened up concrete and tangible prospects for the regional community.

The Regional Government of President Tesei, despite the numerous difficulties due to the legacy received, has produced five years of effective administration, with results that have brought the region in line with the best European standards. Among the numerous successes, we can mention the approval of the Regional Health Plan and Waste Plan, the resolution of historical problems such as the Railway, the Collestrada station, the new Umbriafiere, the Tre Valli and the Perugia hub, the high-speed Media Etruria and the airport.

Umbria, which the center-right inherited on the brink of bankruptcy, is now a healthy and competitive region, with all the economic and social fundamentals finally improving. The region has faced the Covid pandemic excellently and is one of the best in Europe for attracting resources from the Next Generation Europe plan (PNRR).

In this journey, mayors and local communities have been protagonists and, even more, they want to be and will be able to be in the near future, in the awareness that their experience, their knowledge of the problems to be faced, their fundamental relationship with the territory are essential elements in building the future.

The first important decision was to convene, by July, the “General States of the Administrators of Local Authorities of Umbria”, which will take stock of the good things that have been produced by the administrative season and lay the foundations for the future.
