Lega Nazionale Pallacanestro announces the awarding of the title of Manager of the Year in Serie A2 Old Wild West for the 2023/2024 sports season, the “Gabriele Fioretti” Award, to Julio Trovato, general manager of Trapani Shark. The Sicilians, founded in the summer of 2023, immediately obtained promotion to Serie A, also winning the 2023 LNP Super Cup of Serie A2. The award is given in memory of Gabriele Fioretti, general manager of Pallacanestro Biella and in the world of basketball as a journalist and manager, who passed away in November 2014 at the age of 39. Trovato, born in Turin in 1968, obtained the qualification of FIP National Coach in 1996. Since 2003 he has been the CEO of PMS Torino, a company with which he obtained 4 promotions, from the Regional C Series to the A2 Gold Series, won in 2013. He then held the role of CEO of Pallacanestro Trapani in A2 Series for two seasons, before arriving at Virtus Bologna, as general manager, in 2016; with the black and white company he obtained promotion to Serie A in 2017, also winning the Coppa Italia in the category in the same season.
He was later general manager of Basket Ravenna, in A2, from 2018 to 2021, and general manager of Stella Azzurra Basketball Academy Rome, for two years, until 2023. In its first year of life, Trapani Shark took first place in the regular season in the Green group, with 29 wins and only 3 losses, and then won promotion to the top championship through a playoff victory, with a 3-1 win in the final against Fortitudo Bologna, after eliminating Assigeco Piacenza and Tezenis Verona in the previous rounds. The Sicilian team had also won the category Super Cup at the start of the season, in the Final Four in Montecatini Terme, beating Gruppo Mascio Treviglio in the final act. A championship that won over the Granata fans, with an average of 3,056 spectators in the renovated PalaShark, the third highest overall figure in Serie A2. Tomorrow, Wednesday 3 July, at 3:00 pm, the winner of the “Gabriele Fioretti” Award as Manager of the Year 2023/24 in the Old Wild West National B Series will be announced.
