The state and the municipality of Arezzo are unable to reopen the “public” garden of the Roman Amphitheater. We protested, I and many others, but we were silenced with a grass cut that slightly improved the appearance of the area, the one that can be seen from the closed gates. Even the Amphitheater is no longer enjoyable or usable for summer events and demonstrations. Everything is blocked by some diseased plants, or so they say.
It was announced a few months ago that action would be taken to square the circle, but nothing happens. An intolerable situation continues. The small, shady, beautiful park can also be visited by tourists who would like to see the Amphitheater, if only from outside.
Now there are many of us who are truly tired; we cannot continue to say that “property is an obstacle” because it is equivalent to hiding behind a finger. I am sure that if the municipality intervenes on diseased plants, evidently dangerous, no one will dream of putting spokes in the wheels, least of all the property.
The problem is always the same, the money not allocated; but it is a choice. A municipal resolution of these days allocates millions upon millions for the project (for now it is little more) of the roundabout of via Fiorentina; in the same way it has been a short time since the same thing happened for the double barrel under the Railway.
There they talk about millions as if they were peanuts and here they cannot allocate a few cents for the decorum of the city; the dear decorum of which they filled their mouths during the last local election campaigns.
It is not possible to do it in general, that the city is neglected, abandoned to itself, in the green areas and in the switched off fountains, in the waste collection in the center, in the badly paved streets…
But I don’t want to change the subject and I go back there, to that park and that Amphitheater, which must be reopened, for the citizens and for the tourists. For the decorum of the city.
