Ragusa – The Municipality of Ragusa is facing a serious water crisis that has left dozens of families without drinkable water from their taps, forcing them to request the intervention of water tankers to meet essential domestic needs. The situation is critical and the measures adopted so far have proven insufficient.

Gaetano Mauro, councilor of Generazione in the Municipality of Ragusa, is very harsh towards the Iblea Acque company and the municipal administration: “We have been drained by the inefficiency of those who have not been able to face an announced water crisis. From Iblea Acque we will only receive a mountain of debt and inefficiencies. And we are only at the beginning”.
Mauro stressed that every day there are situations of desperate families who are calling for solutions to deal with an unprecedented water shortage.

“Mayor Cassì’s only countermeasure was to ask the Iblea Acque company to activate new telephone numbers to request tankers. Stuff for beginners. But if they can’t answer the unfortunate citizens on the phone, how do they plan to manage the provincial water network? They are looking for wells to connect to the network, almost as if it were a treasure hunt. A situation that denotes total unpreparedness on possible solutions to adopt”.

Councilor Mauro also recalled the mayor’s duty to monitor the work of Iblea Acque, as legal representative of the Municipality of Ragusa, a shareholder with 2,307 shares of the share capital, and as President of the Committee on similar control. Last May, the government of Rome declared a state of emergency for drought in Sicily, allocating 20 million euros in aid, a figure well below the 130 million euros requested by the regional government. However, no funds have yet arrived in Ragusa.

“The members of Iblea Acque, the mayors of the province of Ragusa, should remove the top management of the company at this point, starting with the sole director Franco Poidomani for manifest incompetence and adopt urgent solutions to solve the problem for the citizens of Ragusa,” concluded Mauro. “Unless they are really thinking of relying on dowsers to search for new water wells that can solve the drought problem in Ragusa. We can expect anything.”
