Twenty-eight defeats in as many matches: this was the merciless balance of Sirdeco Pescara in the 2023-2024 women’s A2 championship. The last place with a negative record (only one point earned during the entire season) sanctioned the relegation of the Abruzzo club, but even several months after the last match of what has been a troubled year, the team continues to be talked about. Just today, the Fipav Federal Court returned to deal with Sirdeco and the issue of unpaid salaries to the athletes.
Sirdeco Pescara’s negative record: an entire championship of only defeats
The sports justice proceedings concerned in particular the president of the Pescara club, Simone De Collibus. As stated in the ruling, Sirdeco Pescara failed to pay at least 50% of the compensation due, given that the relevant documentation was not filed by March 8. Last March 18, the Abruzzo club was sentenced to pay a hefty fine, 10 thousand euros, with the proposal to ban the club’s legal representative from any federal activity for over three years, without forgetting the 4 penalty points to be inflicted on the team.
The Fipav Court has addressed the issue again because Sirdeco Pescara has announced that it has paid the salaries of 8 athletes at 100% and another 10 at 50%, explaining how the delay was due to nothing less than a scam. In practice, the club was the injured party regarding a 10 thousand euro guarantee, not to mention the non-payment by the sponsors. The payment of the financial penalty mentioned above has contributed to reviewing the sentence, therefore De Collibus’ disqualification has been reduced to 3 months, while the penalty points have gone from 3 to 1.
