“Kiska is the latest Caretta caretta to arrive at our hospital. She is tiny, weighing only 3kg, but she has already known so much suffering. It comes from Condofuri (RC) where it was spotted by some swimmers near the shoreline. It was floating wrapped in fishing line and a plastic bag. The people present immediately contacted us to provide assistance”. This is the post published on Facebook by Blue Conservancy.

“As you can see from the images, the turtle took the bait of a medium-sized longline hook and, as often happens in these situations, after being captured it was thrown back into the sea. The line to which the hook was attached was so long that the turtle continued to ingest meters and meters of it, until the hook came out of the cloaca again and the remaining, enormous, tangle of nylon line passes through it and occludes the entire digestive tract, from the esophagus to the intestine. Due to these conditions, the turtle is currently in a reserved prognosis, and even if the situation is desperate we will do everything possible to save it”.

“This sea turtle is also a victim of ByCatch, we talked about it in a Reel in recent days, and explored the phenomenon on our website (blueconservancy.org). ByCatch (accidental catches) kill millions of marine animals every year, including sea turtles, sharks, cetaceans, sea birds, rays, manta rays and millions of other fish. This is why our Blue Conservancy team will never tire of telling you about these issues. Only by raising awareness can we protect marine ecosystems. For us, it is a mission, but we need your help. Support us with a donation!”.
