Indian hemp plantation discovered on Gargano

INDIAN HEMP PLANTATION DISCOVERED ON GARGANO. OVER 5,200 PLANTS SEIZED IN A JOINT OPERATION BY G.di F. AND DIA

An Indian hemp plantation was discovered by the financial police of the Foggia Provincial Command and by the personnel of the DIA of Bari and Foggia in collaboration with air units of the Naval Air Operations Department of the Guardia di Finanza of Bari.

In particular, following a reconnaissance of the territory conducted both on the ground and from the air and a targeted info-investigative activity carried out in the summer period, when the possibility of illicit cultivation is greater, the Guardia di Finanza and the DIA personnel intervened in the Lesina area (FG), in the isthmus area between the lake and the sea, the so-called “Sacca Orientale”.

After a thorough reconnaissance, a fenced area was identified, protected by barbed wire and shade netting, inside which there was thick vegetation and a small lake; the area was monitored by remote-controlled cameras.

Hidden among the various types of shrubs were found 5,239 plants of Indian hemp, both growing and ready to be cut and dried for the preparation of doses of marijuana.

The extension of the area required many hours to identify and eradicate all the plants, so much so that the operations continued throughout the night until the following morning.

From the analyses carried out and based on the active ingredient THC contained, it emerged that over 11,526 doses could have been obtained from the seized plants.

The owners of the area have been reported to the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Foggia.

It should be noted that, regardless of the circumstantial evidence collected, the persons under investigation must be considered innocent until a final conviction is issued.
