The inspiration for this first edition of the Roman Travertine Festivala natural evolution of the days of the Travertino Romano, for years an unmissable summer event, has its origin in the presence within the extraction sites of all the natural elements that characterise the planet’s system, namely water, earth, air and fire in their uses and transformations.
Music and cultural performances, curated by internationally renowned artists, will take shape within the framework of the Festival scheduled Friday, July 5, 2024 inside one of the sites of Cave Streetwhere the night show, scheduled for 10:00 p.m. in the heart of the mining activity, is already expected to be particularly suggestive. When the quarry area, illuminated only by the moonlight on the white stone, will be a wonderful stage for the artists and spectators invited to attend a truly unique performance.

The organization is entrusted, as usual, to the CVTR (Centre for the Valorisation of Roman Travertine) – the Consortium that brings together the companies of the industrial extractive district of Tivoli and Guidonia Montecelio – and will also be able to count on the patronage of the Lazio Region, the Municipalities of Tivoli and Guidonia Montecelio, the Order of Architects, Planners, Landscapers and Conservationists of Rome and the Province. Each exhibition in the program will therefore be linked to one of the natural elements present. The earth, where Travertine is extracted and transformed through a technological process that in recent years has managed to make the production process increasingly compatible with the needs of environmental quality. The thermal springs (water) represent a unicum with the stone material; the air and/or the sun linked above all to the production of energy, complete the constitutive and industrial process of this magnificent stone, used in architecture in every part of the planet, known since the times of ancient Rometoday extracted and processed with new techniques to quickly reach a multitude of places in the world.
The need of the industrial sector has been, for some time, to systematize these peculiarities, all present within this environmental microcosm, through a Network equipped and usable by the population, by the business world, by the scientific and academic world, more generally by cultural tourism. An opportunity that the CVTR does not want to miss to insert the industrial district, the cities that represent it, in an attractive destination from a socio-cultural point of view.
To implement this project idea, over the years, important training activities, guided tours and research have already been started which have brought Travertine closer to fashion, marketing, music, cinema and theatre; but also to local social realities, through a concrete closeness to third sector associations, to the world of disabilities, in a now indissoluble union. In this first edition of the Festival del Travertino Romano, space is also given to the economy with a conference on the theme of economic growth and social development of business, which will act as a showcase for professionals in the sector, representatives of local, regional and national public institutions. All this represents the spirit of the Roman Travertine Festival.
