Highlight week for the Asti Lirica festival with four events

A key week for the Asti Lirica festival, which will end on September 17, with four events in a few days.
Tomorrow (Wednesday) a dive into baroque and sacred music is scheduled with a double event in the Baptistery of San Pietro complex, which will be lit up for the occasion by numerous candles. The soprano Chiara Pontoriero and the countertenor Gustavo Argandoña will be the protagonists, at 9 pm, of the baroque concert “Tra sospiri e furori d’amore”, with pages ranging from Monteverdi to Händel, therefore from the most pathetic to the most virtuosic meaning of the baroque. Following, at 10.15 pm, “Armonie celesti” with the polyphonic choir Ensemble Vocale Novharmony, which will therefore perform without instrumental accompaniment, formed by young graduates in ancient singing, engaged in the sacred repertoire from the sixteenth century to the present day.
Both concerts are free to attend.

I “Carmina Burana”

The following day, Thursday 4 July at 9 pm at the Teatro Alfieri, space will be given to Carmina Burana. The show, produced by the Teatro dell’Opera Giocosa of Savona, will have as performers the soprano Irene Celle, the baritone Matteo Loi, the tenor Raffaele Feo and the Coro Philarmonia, led by the baton of Giovanni Di Stefano. The performance will be preceded by the Requiem SC76 for choir, solo viola and organ by Giacomo Puccini, one hundred years after his death, which will be performed in homage to the artist from Asti Giorgio Faletti on the tenth anniversary of his death (which occurred on 4 July 2014).

The operetta “The Merry Widow”

And again on Sunday 7 July, at 9 pm at the Teatro Alfieri, a great operetta classic: “The Merry Widow” by Franz Lehár. It will be performed by soprano Renata Campanella, who had already been in Asti for “Don Giovanni” in January 2023, who will play the role of Anna Glavari. On the podium, Stefano Giaroli will lead the Terre Verdiane Symphony Orchestra and the Parma Opera Choir; the production is by Teatro Musica Novecento.
As in previous events of the festival, music critic Alberto Bazzano will introduce the evening with “The Opera in 5 Minutes”, a brief informative moment on the show to follow.

Tickets

For the events of July 4 and 7, tickets cost 12 euros (reduced to 10 euros for season ticket holders, Kor Card and Biblioteca Astense plus card holders, Verdi Institute students, young people under 25 and over 65). Tickets available at the Teatro Alfieri box office: 0141/399057.
