(ANSA) – POTENZA, 02 JULY – The National Department of Civil Protection will receive from the Basilicata Region “a detailed and motivated request” to “declare a state of emergency” caused by the drought and the limited amount of water in the Lucanian dams, with the hope that “this process will be short”. This is the conclusion reached by the technical table that met in Potenza: the state of emergency – as occurred in Sicily and Calabria, it was underlined – “would allow for greater incisiveness of the actions needed to deal with the water emergency”. During the meeting, “an overall picture was provided of the great contingent difficulties regarding the supply of water for civil use, which – even if resolved quickly – cannot fail to be considered also in the medium term. Unfortunately, the data on the water resource in storage and the medium-long term weather forecasts are not at all positive for the solution of the problem”, to the point that it is convinced that the drought “will increasingly affect the Lucanian territory”. In addition to the Region, representatives of the prefectures, civil protection, health companies, Acquedotto Lucano and the land reclamation consortium, Acque del Sud and the Basin Authority participated in the technical table meeting, whose observatory was asked to “evaluate with all urgency the data provided for the declaration of water severity”.
