Erica Mou from Bisceglie stops in Bari
Will be Erica Mouoriginally from Bisceglie, to transform the sounds and traditions of Puglia into music. After the release of the single and video entitled “La festa del santo” on June 7, the tour of the multifaceted artist, invited by the kermesse organized by Cubo live, will stop today at 9:15 pm at the Unahotels Regina in Bari. Here she will be accompanied by Flavia Massimo on cello and the multi-instrumentalist Molla, with whom she has shared the stage for some time.

The new single tells of a village festival, mixing the excitement and disorientation typical of these events. The release was accompanied by a video clip directed by Giacomo Citro, filmed on the occasion of the feast of the holy martyrs Mauro, Sergio and Pantaleone and made with the support of the Municipality of Bisceglie. To learn more about her new musical project and understand the importance of the territory that is the protagonist of her songs, we interviewed her.

Originally from Bisceglie but now of international standing. How was it starting from the South? What difficulties or advantages did you find in your musical journey?
“I don’t know of any other departure than the one I did, than the great inspiration that the places I call home have given me, the bond with the sea and with a reality that in adolescence we insisted on changing using music and words. There are logistical disadvantages, of course, an eccentricity with respect to the network of places “that matter” and an accent that often brings prejudice in those who listen to it. But there is also a sort of digital footprint, a belonging that makes me who I am.”

In the video clip the saint’s day there are many references to Puglia. Why? What would you like to emphasize?
“The song tells of a village festival against the backdrop of a bizarre love story. Thanks to the director, Giacomo Citro, I wanted to visually convey that summer atmosphere of chaotic and unchanging party nights.”

Who is the saint that gives the song its title?
«I wasn’t thinking of a particular celebration, it’s a story that smells of the South, of lights, stalls and candy floss».

Are you attached to your land?
«A lot. I also returned to live in Puglia, specifically in Bisceglie, after having lived many years far from Italy and therefore from my homeland».

Are there other songs that tell about Puglia? If so, why dedicate so much space to the places and what do they represent for you?
«Places are always a metaphor for something else and an inexhaustible source of inspiration. There are many songs in my repertoire that talk about Puglia. The chorus of my best-known song says “I always get lost but I always know which side is the sea”. It’s a declaration of belonging, an inner compass that brings you home. My novel “Nel mare c’è la sete” is set in Puglia and even new things I’m working on have the places I know best as their backdrop».

Finally, what is, if there is, the goal of your new album?
“The album I’m going to release adds a piece, the seventh, to my discographic production. I don’t write and sing thinking about a goal but about the necessary continuation of a story, of a history that continues to excite me and that I hope will be able to communicate the same emotions to those who will listen.”

Admission to the concert in Bari is free and requires only a reservation.
