The initiative, held on Saturday 29 June, included a screening for osteoporosis, conducted by Dr. Antonello Trotta (Univ. Di Foggia), using an innovative and harmless method, REMS, which uses ultrasound.
The social prevention aspect of the initiative is clear: osteoporosis is a disease that affects millions of people worldwide and prevention is essential to reduce its impact. The initiative aims to provide an effective tool for the prevention of osteoporosis, helping to improve the health of the population.
The local entrepreneurial aspect of the territory is equally important: the company Echolight SpA of Lecce, which developed and patented the innovative method, represents an example of entrepreneurial excellence in the Apulian territory.
The collaboration between the organizations involved in the initiative demonstrates how the synergy between the social, medical and business sectors can lead to concrete and positive results for the community. The result is tangible proof of this: out of a case study of 10 subjects examined, 50% were found to be affected by osteoporosis without knowing it. This demonstrates the importance of prevention initiatives, which can help to identify the disease early and intervene promptly to prevent further complications.
The screening day is a natural continuation of the prevention path of the above-mentioned promoting associations, which last year organized the information seminar “Osteporosis – Social Disease” held at the Croce Bianca.
A second day is planned for next fall.
