“As regards microbiological parameters, in 4 out of 5 rivers the data are below the threshold foreseen” by the ministerial decree of 30 March 2010 “which defines the quality of bathing water”, indicated a note from Legambiente Emilia-Romagna, adding that “as regards the Po di Volano, on the other hand, values well above the threshold are noted in both sampled points, an indication of probable presence of direct discharges in the watercourse”.
The note highlighted that, “for the evaluation of the results of the analyses relating to nitrates and phosphates, threshold values of the Limeco indicator were considered, which define the quality of the water as sufficient”. Legambiente underlined that “the points of exceedance” are “in the two points sampled on the Po di Volano”.
In relation to the “presence of glyphosate or its metabolite, Ampa”, the note indicated that “its presence is below the legal limits, except in the Po di Volano”. A presence, among the data released, accompanied by that relating to Escherichia coli and fecal coliformsthe values of which are indicated in the report.
“This situation represents a serious risk for the environment and public health and indicates a probable presence of direct discharges into the watercourse. Therefore I have asked the Minister of the Environment and Energy Security Gilberto Pichetto Fratin to adopt urgent measures for remediation of the waters of the Po di Volano and for the prevention of further contamination”, commented the deputy of the 5 Star Movement Stefania Ascari.
The Five Star Movement MP concluded that “it is necessary to foresee a continuous monitoring plan of water, sanctioning those responsible for illegal discharges and promoting awareness and information among the population on the risks associated with water contamination. We must safeguard and protect our water resources”.
