Today’s edition of “Il Corriere dello Sport” focuses on the Catanzaro market with the sales of Vandeputte and Fuglinati which brought in a nice sum for Noto.
The postponement of one day (tomorrow at 4 pm) of the announced (and awaited) press conference to present the sports director Paolo Morganti and the sports director Ciro Polito, together with the president Noto, makes many things clear. Normally, obstacles are always around the corner, let alone when you have to make up time. With the season just started, with work on the field that will begin in just over a week in the pre-season retreat in Valle d’Aosta, practically everything is ready, apart from one small detail: it is not yet known who will succeed Vincenzo Vivarini on the Catanzaro bench, which does not seem to be as sought after as in the past.
HARD SELECTION. From Alberto Aquilani, through Marco Zaffaroni, then Eugenio Corini, Leonardo Semplici and Paolo Bianco, the casting to give the technical guidance to the team that finished fifth in the last B series, but with scaled-down programs and still aimed at valorizing the youngsters, is in full swing and has not yet found a master. Paolo Bianco is the last on the list to decline the Giallorossi proposal-offer. There are many reasons behind the lack of agreement with various protagonists with whom the DS Polito has also met. The next candidate, after having also spoken with Fabio Caserta, is Beppe Iachini, a very well-established career given the 4 promotions to Serie A achieved between 2007 (Chievo) and 2014 (Palermo) with successes also in Brescia and on the Sampdoria side, last season as a substitute and then fired with Bari where he crossed paths with the new Giallorossi DS Polito. Nothing official, but there is strong interest from both sides.
MARKET. Meanwhile, the outgoing market has quickly taken off with last season’s big names ready to move on to other shores: Belgian right-back Jari Vandeputte (28), given the downsizing of Salernitana’s plans, has signed with Cremonese, as has goalkeeper Andrea Fulignati (29), with an overall income for the Giallorossi club of over 4 million. On the incoming side, Catanzaro is negotiating with Vicenza the striker Matteo Della Morte (24), also useful as a second striker, and right-back Raul Talarico (22), while in defense the profile being followed is that of the experienced central defender Matteo Di Gennaro (30), another year on his contract with Carrarese. With Fiorentina, on the other hand, there are discussions underway for the loan of Under-19 Costantino Favasuli (20), a left-sided midfielder, while Pontedera likes left-winger Simone Ianesi (22).
