The Department of Tourism, Sport and Commerce announces that starting today, Monday 1st July, and until Friday 5th July, the Italian Sabre team, a specialty of Sport Fencing, one of the disciplines of the Games of the XXXVIII Olympiad, scheduled in Paris from 26th July to 11th August, is in pre-Olympic collegiate training in Champoluc.
The 16 sabre fencers, under the orders of Technical Commissioner Nicola Zanotti, train in the premises of the Monterosa Terme multipurpose hall in Champoluc, where eight platforms have been set up.
“We were welcomed with great enthusiasm – he said Nicholas Zanotti – from the community of Val d’Ayas and the entire Valle d’Aosta. Here there are all the conditions to best prepare for the Olympic Games: from the accommodation and training facilities to the climate, everything is functional to our retreat”.
Among the sabre fencers are the protagonists of the historic hat-trick at this year’s European Championships in Basel: Michele Gallo, Luca Curatoli and Luigi Samele, who won gold, silver and bronze medals respectively.
Thursday, July 4thgive her 10.30 to 12.30 a training session open to the public and the media has been scheduled.
“The pre-Olympic collegiate – explains the Councilor Julius Grosjacques – is only the first act of the collaboration between the Region and the Italian Fencing Federation. The agreement was presented on the occasion of the Italian Fencing Championships in Cagliari and includes other initiatives that will involve both the athletes of the youth teams and the athletes of the national teams of sports fencing after the Olympics”.
