unprecedented water war. Tranchida’s response

Misiliscemi has officially warned Trapani for the management of the shared water network, following serious problems that have left some areas of the new municipality without water for over 40 consecutive days. Mayor Tallarita reported 67 interruptions in just 6 monthsrequesting the management of the Marracco plant to ensure strategic coordination between the two municipalities.

The situation is further aggravated by the works by the Municipality of Trapani to strengthen the Bresciana wells, which have caused the skipping of shifts and forced Misiliscemi to modify the water supply shifts. Several homes have been left without water.

The formal notice was sent just in these days to have the management of the Marracco plant and obtain the delivery of the keys –explains the mayor Salvatore Tallarita –. We are entrusting the management of the water network and the plant to a company. With the access of both Municipalities to Marracco, the decisions will have to be agreed upon, so as to cause the least possible damage to the citizens. While, at this moment, the Municipality of Trapani does not involve us strategically and does not agree anything with us. It only sends us to tell us when it closes and when it opens the supply. This lack of communication and coordination between the Municipalities worsens the situation. There is no desire to cause disruption to Trapani – continues the mayor –rather than finding a definitive solution to the water crisis that is painless for everyone”.

Misiliscemi and the 40 days in the desert

The new Municipality had to change the water supply shifts starting last Friday, with the aim of favoring the streets that had not received water for over 40 days.

In fact, the service was provided only to Marausa and Locogrande, while those left dry were Marausa and Rilievo, with the exception of a section of the State Road 115, interrupted for work. To recover the calendar of water shifts, Mayor Tallarita will take stock of the situation today, with the aim of restoring normal supply as soon as possible and guaranteeing the service to all citizens.

And the meeting will be held in the new headquarters of the Municipality, in Salinagrande, and no longer on the third floor of Palazzo D’Alì in Trapani.

Trapani: “A glass of water is not denied to anyone. But we have no water”

“The available water must be distributed equally among the Municipalities, based on population, tourist users and the number of meters. He also stressed that Misiliscemi receives almost double the water compared to the users present, due to a problem in the distribution system.

Tranchida rejected Misiliscemi’s request to obtain the keys to Marracco, arguing that the plant is part of Trapani’s water system and that decisions about its management are up to the Municipality. He also announced that he has filed a complaint against Mayor Tallarita for his statements.

The water crisis between Trapani and Misiliscemi seems destined to continue, with both municipalities firm in their positions. In the meantime, citizens continue to suffer the inconveniences caused by the lack of water.
