Prostate cancer affects middle-aged men between the ages of 45 and 60 and is a leading cause of death in men globally, after lung disease.
There is no single specific test for prostate cancer, however, diagnosis is conventionally made by digital rectal examination (DRE). The prostate-specific antigen (PSA) test, however, remains the cornerstone of prostate cancer screening.

To confirm the presence of cancer, a biopsy of prostate tissue is usually performed. During the biopsy, the prostate gland is usually located with devices such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and transrectal ultrasound (TRUS).
The available treatment options for prostate cancer are active surveillance, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, hormone therapy, surgery, and cryotherapy. The treatment options provided to the patient depend on the nature of the tumor, the PSA level, the grade and stage, and the possibility of recurrence.
