The initiative was announced in a note signed by the vice-presidents, the assistant and the members of the diocesan team of the Youth Sector of Catholic Action:
Dear Friends, every year on July 4th we commemorate Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati, friend and model for all of us young people from Ac and beyond. Pier Giorgio has always been a model of life and style for us young people. During the Beatification ceremony Pope John Paul II defined him as “the boy of the Eight Beatitudes”.
This young man from Catholic Action – ninety-nine years after his death in Turin on July 4, 1925 – and close to sainthood during the next jubilee year, still warms hearts and motivates young people to a generous and passionate service for others. His rule of life, “let yourself be involved”, is a warning against indifference and isolation, an invitation to experience the openness of heart that he embodied, a precious glimmer of hope to truly come into contact with the people and reality around us.
Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati is – in the words of Pope Francis – “a model of trust and evangelical boldness for the young generations of Italy and the world”, an example of what it means to “live and not just get by”, the perfect testimonial of the Church that the Pope urges us to create: a Church that walks in the existential peripheries of contemporary humanity, that looks without hesitation at the women and men who seek true life and wait for someone to show them the way, through sharing, brotherhood, material and spiritual charity.
This year too, as per tradition, the diocesan Youth Sector wanted to organize a short but interesting moment of prayer for our very young people, young people and adults to remember the figure of Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati. The moment will be next July 3rd at 7.30 pm at the Minor Seminary of Bisceglie.
