There will therefore be no triangular in the second round of the 2024 legislative elections in the first constituency of Marne. Évelyne Bourgoin, candidate of the New Popular Front, who came in third position, indicated this Monday, July 1, that she was withdrawing in an attempt to avoid the victory of the National Rally.

The first round of the early legislative elections of June 30, 2024 placed the candidate Les Républicains – Rassemblement national in the lead in the first constituency of Marne, with 37.3% of the votes cast. He is followed by the outgoing Horizons deputy Xavier Albertini, at 33.8% and the representative of the New Popular Front (from Europe Écologie Les Verts) Évelyne Bourgoin at 27.1%.

With a significant participation (64.4%), these three candidates exceed the threshold of 12.5% of registered voters and can therefore remain in the second round. But faced with the possibility of seeing the candidate representing the extreme right win on the evening of the second round, the candidate of the New Popular Front decided to withdraw, as she indicated on the microphone of our colleagues from France Bleu , this Monday July 1st.

“I know how much voters counted on this electionexplained Évelyne Bourgoin to our colleagues. We, ecologists, have always remained straight in our boots and always committed to the Republican front. I therefore withdraw. I ask my voters to vote with their soul and conscience regarding the danger of the RN. It’s difficult to tell voters to vote for Mr. Albertini. But we have been thrown into this situation and we hope that the candidates who will be elected thanks to our votes will approach the days to come with another way of considering our electorate.”

There will therefore be no three-way race in the second round in this constituency. This is also the case in the second constituency of Marne, where the New Popular Front (LFI) candidate Stéphane Pirouelle, who came third, announced on Sunday evening that he would be stepping aside for Laure Miller (Renaissance), who came second, behind the RN candidate Anne-Sophie Frigout.

In a press release, the Socialist Party of Marne welcomes “the decisions of the candidates of the New Popular Front, who came in third place, who in responsibility, decided to withdraw their candidacy so as not to contribute to the election of a far-right deputy.” He asks “the same clarity to the presidential majority divided on the Republican front.”

It clearly calls for “block the extreme right in all the constituencies of the Marne by voting for Xavier Albertini on circo 5101, for Laure Miller on circo 5102, for Éric Girardin on circo 5103, for Lise Magnier on circo 5104 and for Charles de Courson on circo 5105”.
