“Mirko’s Crafts” Returns to Venice

“I Mestieri di Mirko” returns to Venice: Monday 1 July, on RaiPlay, Mirko Matteucci is once again in the lagoon city to tackle a particularly complex undertaking with Alberto Della Toffola, a very young master shipwright for generations: the construction of a gondola, a historic symbol of Venice.
To do this, Matteucci will get to work in the San Trovaso shipyard, one of the oldest, as well as one of the very few still in operation. The squero – from the word “squara” which indicates the tool used to build boats – is the classic shipyard where gondolas and other typical Venetian boats were built and repaired. The host will experience first-hand how much effort this work entails and how difficult it is to prepare unique boats in the world that require the use of eight different types of precious wood.

“I Mestieri di Mirko”, a program produced by Rai Contenuti Digitali e Transmediali, hosted by Mirko Matteucci and directed by Paolo Tommasini, available at the link https://www.raiplay.it/programmi/imestieridimirko is an opportunity to tell the ancient crafts that have characterized our country, remember the past and adapt it to our times while respecting local traditions. From north to south, Mirko Matteucci embarks on enterprises that become ever new and exciting adventures, reaches historic places, meets people who have distinguished themselves for their art and learns from them works that are an expression of creativity and ingenuity of many generations.
