“We are increasingly speechless and increasingly heartbroken in the face of this massacre of human beings and of rights. There is no day left for people deprived of their freedom to try in any way to put an end to the suffering inflicted by a State that does not comply with the constitutional dictate. a policy that is indifferent and deaf to the demands of a forgotten world where the law is suspended”.

This was stated in a note by the guarantor of people deprived of personal liberty in the Sardinia Region, Irene Testa.

“Every day news comes from prisons of suicides and acts of self-harm. Of those who, like in Sassari, have set themselves on fire, and it is not the first time this has happened. Penal institutions are increasingly becoming powder kegs – comments Testa -. In Sassari the tragedy that could have involved many people has been averted. We no longer know in which language to explain that people with psychiatric disorders cannot be in prison as long as the Minister of Justice pretends not to see the problem?”.
