Let’s start with waste collection: Friday’s garbage is collected on Monday when, as we know, there is a need for daily collections, considering that restaurants cook fish. Then, still talking about cleanliness and hygiene, there is a lack of bins in the streets and everything that could give dignity to a tourist location.” Traders also point the finger at the lack of decorum: “The flowerbeds are in ruins as are the sidewalks; there is no lighting, not even a sign of bike racks, construction sites have been open for years and construction sites are being reorganized to remedy the irremediable – and they point to the pier, the subject of controversy -. And also the children’s park is in pitiful conditions. We then see improvised and not respected signs. For example, on Friday morning the market trucks drive through the streets without respecting either the businesses they are working on or the one-way streets.
Traders are also worried about the presence of unsavory individuals who occupy some structures in the center of Marina. “It is important to remember that many traders are afraid to reach the car parks to go home when they close.” And things are no better on the sea, where “on the sides of the pier the free beaches are in pitiful conditions. All this degradation – they continue – facilitates the presence of individuals who have recently caused extensive damage and theft to the activities”. In short, Marina asks for safety, decorum and cleanliness.
