At Iacovone everyone is Offside!

This year, after the pause imposed by the pandemic, the “Fuori…gioco!” Project is back. which, now in its seventh edition, is aimed at the re-education of prisoners through sport.

The project, organized by the APS “Fuorigioco” with the patronage of the Ministry of Justice, began in February and in recent months has seen various activities carried out at the Taranto prison to promote the culture of legality and the values ​​of sport among prisoners .

The project will be concluded by a football tournament which, at 5.30 pm on Saturday 22 June, on the grass of the “Erasmo Iacovone” stadium in Taranto will see four teams compete: Prisoners, Magistrates, Lawyers and Penitentiary Police; entry will be free with reservation via Whatsapp 3807464892. In addition to the match for the little ones – from 4 to 8 years old – there will also be, organized by “L’Isola dei bambini”, entertainment and educational, sporting and sensorial workshops .

The initiative held at the Salone degli Specchi of Palazzo di Città di Taranto, which was welcomed by the lawyer. Giulio Destratis, President of APS “Fuorigioco”, attended by Dr. Rita Alessandra Romano, Magistrate President of the National Association of Magistrates Section of Taranto, Dr. Fulvia Misserini, Magistrate who has always been close to these initiatives, Chief Inspector Domenico Madeo of the Penitentiary Police, Dr. Doriana De Gaetani of the Prison Treatment Area, the Lawyer. Vincenzo Di Maggio, President of the Taranto Bar Association, and Dr. Gianni Azzaro, Deputy Mayor of Taranto and sports councilor.

Speakers as exceptional testimonials of the project were Roberto Donadoni, former footballer of Milan and the Italian national football team, and Renato Olive, former footballer and former captain of Perugia and Bologna, who in the same morning then met the prisoners participating in the initiative within the prison.

The successful formula of the “Fuori…gioco!” Project has been confirmed in this seventh edition. which intends to re-educate prisoners by transmitting to them the typical values ​​of sport, such as respect for the rules and for the opponent; the director of the Taranto Penitentiary Institute, Dr. Luciano Mellone, in fact, welcomed the re-proposal of the project by its creator and coordinator, the lawyer Giulio Destratis, President of APS Fuorigioco.

After a preliminary meeting in which the development of the project activities was explained to the inmates, held in the presence of the Chief Inspector of Penitentiary Police Domenico Madeo, Dr. Vitantonio Aresta and Dr. Doriana De Gaetani of the Treatment Area of ​​the Institute, the didactic phase was developed with a series of classroom lessons inside the prison, in which issues relating to the techniques and tactics of game, sports justice, the civil and criminal aspects relating to sports practice, the federal system and sports traumatology.

Famous faces from Italian football have already spoken during the educational activities: Pierluigi Orlandini, Giampaolo Spagnulo and Antonio Di Gennaro who spoke about their life experiences, providing the young people in prison with interesting food for thought.

The second phase saw game training carried out with the teams which, as mentioned, will give life to a unique event of its kind in Italy: the quadrangular football tournament between the representatives of Magistrates, Lawyers, Penitentiary Officers and prisoners, who will compete in the name of Fair Play!
