MORE SCAMS IN VENICE: 3 BOX DEALERS REPORTED

The “scalettottisti” are returning to Venice: in recent days, in fact, the soldiers of the San Marco station have reported three people accused of “illegally carrying out gaming or betting activities”.

On the afternoon of June 4, the three men of foreign nationality – aged 53, 23 and 48 – were busy on the Accademia bridge entertaining tourists with the game of three cans, a well-orchestrated scam in which the “croupier” is to decide the outcome of the matches, systematically deceiving the participants.

But a Venetian citizen, having noticed the scam, decided to warn the crowd to prevent other people from falling into the trap: an altruistic gesture which however provoked a hostile reaction from one of the scammers, who persistently threatened her.

The woman then filed a complaint at the San Zaccaria Carabinieri barracks and, thanks to her report, the three were quickly identified and referred to the Judicial Authority.

Unfortunately, however, this is not the only danger for tourists in the city: for some time, in fact, they have had to deal with pickpockets, often very young, who operate mainly on vaporettos, taking advantage of the temporary distraction of passengers.

A plague that is unfortunately difficult to eradicate, due to the high number of visitors who flock to Venice.

For this reason, the police remind us of the importance of reporting any suspicious activity to the authorities to make Venice a safe and welcoming place for all visitors.
