The man who drowned on the Anzio coast was a freelancer from Lanuvio

He was 66 years old and was a freelancer Lanuvio Alfredo Baccarinithe man who drowned yesterday afternoon in the stretch of sea in front of the free beach between the Lido Garda and Marinaro bathing establishments.

In the morning the man had reached Anzio together with his partner to spend Sunday at his brother-in-law’s house which is located right on the beach. Around 4pm together with their partner they decided to take a swim by swimming to the reef parallel to the coast, about 100 meters from the beach.

But the rough sea, the currents and the undertow dragged them towards the rocks. The woman was rescued by a 17-year-old boy who was also in the water, while the man was lost. He was then spotted a few minutes later as he floated about 50 meters from shore.

Once he was brought back to the beach, a final attempt was made to resuscitate him, but to no avail. “His lips were blue and he never gave any sign, even the slightest, of life“, explains another witness. Some bathers, the lifeguard at the Lido Garda establishment and also the man’s brother-in-law, who is a doctor, attempted resuscitation. But every attempt was in vain.
