Three million and 550 thousand euros for the prevention of seismic risk destined for Municipalities. The Campania Region has allocated them for the implementation of Seismic Microzonation studies (level 1 and level 3) and for the evaluation and analysis of the Limit Condition for the Emergency of the urban settlement. These are contributions for investigations aimed at investigating the dynamic behavior of soils with respect to the stresses of an earthquake: through seismic microzonation it is possible to identify and characterize stable zones, stable zones susceptible to local amplification and zones subject to instability, such as landslides, surface ruptures due to faults and dynamic liquefaction of the soil.

Thanks to a strong action by the Campania Region in this direction, to the approval of a specific decree and to the activation of the related “expression of interest” (published in Burc number 43 of 10 June), the Municipalities can submit an application for the assignment of the available funds. The maximum amount of the contribution that can be granted to local administrations, for each admitted work, depends on the number of resident inhabitants.

In the case of level 1 Seismic Microzonation, including the Limit Condition for Emergency (CLE), the participation of the Municipalities in associated form is encouraged: with this analysis the aim is in fact to have a complete picture of the local response to an earthquake and to know , in particular, following the occurrence of an earthquake, what is the threshold after which the urban settlement still retains, as a whole, the operation of most of the strategic functions for the emergency, their accessibility and connection with the territorial context. The resources referred to in the decree published on Burc 43 are granted to the Municipalities in exchange for a minimum cost sharing.

This is a fundamental action that falls within the framework of the “l’Aquila” decree, to provide municipalities with useful information for territorial governance, design, emergency planning and post-earthquake reconstruction: Seismic Microzonation studies in fact have the objective of rationalizing knowledge on the alterations that seismic shaking can undergo on the surface. The decree on seismic microzonation joins the one approved last April which, again in the context of seismic prevention, allocated 17 million and 200 thousand euros for interventions on strategic municipal buildings. Please note that for the territories affected by bradyseism, seismic microzonation is foreseen and implemented pursuant to art. 2 of Legislative Decree 140/2023.
