Welcome letter from the mayor of Fasano: “Our olive trees can inspire peace”

The GNV Azzurra ferry has arrived in the port of Brindisi and will host around 600 law enforcement operators involved in security services for the G7, scheduled from tomorrow to Saturday in Borgo Egnazia on the Fasano coast. “The ferry – inform the Adriatic Sea Port System Authority – will remain in the port until June 17th”.
The arrival of the new ship became necessary after controversy over the conditions of the Mykonos Magic ship which was initially supposed to accommodate over 2,500 law enforcement officers. Housing, the police and carabinieri unions denounced as “dirty and dilapidated”. Hence the rental of the GNV Azzurra ferry by the Ministry of the Interior. Over a thousand policemen and carabinieri were transferred to accommodation facilities in the provinces of Brindisi, Lecce and Taranto.
Meanwhile, the mayor of Fasano, Francesco Zaccaria, on the eve of the summit, wrote a welcome letter addressed to the world leaders who will attend the G7 and to the pontiff.
“On behalf of all my fellow citizens, I wish you the warmest welcome to Fasano, in particular to the Holy Father, Pope Francis. Our arms, always open to the whole world, will make you truly feel the warmth of us Fasano people. We are more than proud and grateful to you for having gathered here, but above all we have hope that these days in Fasano will be decisive for all humanity. All of us, in fact, hope that the olive trees that surround you in these days, with which our ancestors adorned and fertilized our land of passage and encounter, will inspire you to peace”.
