37 year old former footballer found dead – Teramo

GIULIANOVA. A boy with a heart of gold, with an always ready smile, and a life in sport, first as a football goalkeeper and then as a Giulianova fan. The city cries Claudio Zaccagnini, 37 years old, found dead yesterday morning in his home in via Marconi, in Giulianova Spiaggia, by his father Antonio. Unfortunately, it was an extreme gesture, preceded by a letter in which he expressed his intentions sent to his ex-partner, from whom he had separated in recent months. The two had a son who is 7 years old. Giulianova’s carabinieri, firefighters and 118 health personnel intervened on site, but they were unable to do anything to save the young man. There was no need for an autopsy and so the prosecutor on duty, Greta Aloisiordered the return of the body to the family.
In February, Zaccagnini had been involved in clashes between Giulianova and Teramo fans in via Cupa, and was obliged to sign to the police. But the former player is remembered by everyone for the evening of 7 July 2018, when he saved with a cardiac massage a child who had been electrocuted by some exposed wires, near the monument dedicated to Vittorio Emanuele II, in Piazza della Libertà in Giulianova Country. For this reason the then mayor Francesco Mastromauro gave him a plaque of merit in the name of the citizens of Giulia, highlighting «the timely intervention of Claudio who, by putting his own safety at risk, demonstrated cold blood, but above all great generosity». In past years he worked as a worker in Morro d’Oro in the Cordivari company, and in Mosciano in Amadori, and recently he worked as a waiter. Mayor Jwan Costantini and the municipal administration remember him with emotion: «Di Claudio», underlines Costantini, «we will keep in our memory the passion for football and the colors of Giulianova, but above all his courage and altruism. In 2018 he received a plaque of merit for intervening to the rescue of a child. And today we remember him like this: a young man with a heart of gold who will be missed dearly by everyone. Now you are an angel, and we have to win the final (to reach Serie D, ndc) for you too”. Many messages of condolence also appeared on social media. «You hit me in the heart. I’m incredulous, but you have to have respect,” he wrote Massimo Africani, «you came to work at the Caprice and I was happy about it. May you find peace in another place for eternity.”
The funeral home has been set up in the Gerardini funeral home and the funeral will be held today at 4pm in the church of San Pietro Apostolo.
