In a recent interview, engineer Silvio Canalella, responsible for Anas Calabria’s new works, provided significant updates on the controversial Corigliano-Rossano-Sibari road project.
Despite its strategic importance for regional traffic, the project is being contested by those who risk having their land expropriated.
The services conference, initially scheduled for May 28th, was postponed to June 13th at the request of the Calabria Region, which requested more time to collect and evaluate all the opinions necessary to formulate a clear opinion.
The most delicate point of the project is represented by the expropriations necessary for its realization. Canalella reiterated that, despite the inconvenience for the expropriated, the public interest of the work takes precedence. Expropriation procedures are currently managed in accordance with decree 327/2001.
In particular, in Corigliano, possible tensions with landowners are expected. However, Canalella assures that the procedural process was impeccable, following all current regulations on public procurement and the conference of services.
As regards the role of mayors and municipal administrations in the services conference, they can express an opinion on the work, but this is not decisive: the public interest has priority.
Finally, on the possibility of blocking the project, Canalella expressed himself with caution, underlining that any appeals will be handled according to the established administrative procedures.
