Suspension of water supply. New disruption in the Pastorella district. Mayor Grillo: “These incidents are unacceptable. We are doing everything we can to resolve the problem and create as little inconvenience as possible.”. Prefecture and Military Authorities informed of the serious emergency

“Dear citizens, unfortunately, for the third time in a row our city is suffering an interruption in the water supply due to a new break in the main pipe. I am on site to closely monitor the works and, having consulted experts in the sector, we are suggesting all possible technical methods to reduce repair times. I am aware of the inconveniences that are being created and, together with councilor Gerardi, I wish to convey to you my deepest understanding of the difficulties we will have to face. I again alerted Civil Protection and the Forestry Corps to reduce the inconvenience, requesting prompt intervention to supply tankers. Like you, I find these incidents unacceptable, but we are working tirelessly to resolve the problem in collaboration with the Public Works sector. At the same time, I ordered an in-depth investigation to gain knowledge of the causes of the new breakdown, even though it is known that our network is old, dilapidated and worn, dating back to the 1980s and which should be completely replaced. Almost all Sicilian municipalities are in the same situation, but none of them have the economic resources to be able to face such an intervention. I thank the organizations that promptly made available resources, starting with the 37th Wing of the Air Force and the Forestry Inspectorate. We will keep you informed”.

A true “open letter to the city” is the declaration of the mayor Massimo Grillo, who regrets having to once again communicate to the citizens the temporary suspension of the water supply in the city. The Water Service Department, directed by Ivan Gearardi, has in fact detected new damage to the main pipeline in the Pastorella district, on the southern side of Marsala. The water network affected is the same one that, just a few days ago, had been reactivated following two consecutive faults. With the water supply now interrupted, the greatest critical issues are expected for the northern area. Technicians and workers are already at work, but it will be necessary to wait for the next 24 hours to get the systems back into operation.

Meanwhile, the Grillo Administration has informed both the Prefecture and the military authorities of the serious emergency situation. Furthermore, the tanker service has been alerted to ensure water supplies in health and/or care facilities, schools and commercial activities as a priority.
