Over 7 million to increase the rates of additional services for doctors and the sector. Gabriele Brandoni, regional secretary of Doctors Cisl Marche: what is your opinion on this measure?

“It goes in a fairly right direction: equalizing professionals is equivalent to valuing the figures within the hospital structure.”

What do you mean?

«Putting additional services into the healthcare system means giving the patient the opportunity to be followed by a doctor who works in the department and not by an external professional who he will perhaps never see again. From the patient’s point of view, it is essential to talk to the doctor who prescribed a therapy; as it is important from the doctor’s point of view because it puts professionals on the same level. There is no reason why a public sector professional, in the same department and doing the same job, earns three times less than an external professional. And so the waiting lists are also shortened.”

In which department?

«In all departments where the time perceived by the patient between the moment of booking a specialist outpatient service and the moment of provision is objectively too long. I’m talking about cardiology, nephrology, dermatology, ophthalmology visits, just to name a few.”

Are the 7 million allocated by the Region decisive?

«They remain a stopgap solution: we cannot think of resolving the critical issues with this type of measure. It will help for three or four months, but it will not alleviate a situation in which all our professionals are exhausted. By better monetizing the additional services, the value of their work is recognized, but the shortage of doctors is not compensated for. And in any case, it is not possible for the professional to go beyond a certain number of hours compared to his working hours.”

Additional performance is additional work.

“Certain. They will work, but in the very short term: they do not solve the problem of the system which will unfortunately get worse given that there is no investment in prevention.”

Summing up: do you reject or promote the council’s measure?

«The decision of the Health Department is correct and, in fact, it had the green light from all the unions. But it remains a temporary solution that does not resolve the real critical issues.”
