A cheerful initiative, to be experienced and more colorful than ever, dedicated to 70 years of Italian TV.
The ribbon cutting of the exhibition “70 years of TV seen by Mickey Mouse” was held this morning at the Palazzo della Cultura, organized to celebrate the year in which an important anniversary for Italian culture and for Italians themselves falls.
The exhibition, created within the “ex Exchange books” space, with the patronage of the Culture Department of the Municipality of Catania, traces seven decades of history.
Today’s ribbon cutting was attended by the director of Etna Comics, Antonio Mannino, the deputy director Gianluca Impegnoso, the manager of the Exhibition Area, Marco Grasso, and the members of the event’s organizational staff.
«Etna Comics – underlined Antonio Mannino – officially lands in the heart of the city of Catania, creating this wonderful exhibition that can be visited by anyone absolutely free of charge. It is our small tribute to the entire Catania community, who will thus be able to savor this pill of the event while also discovering some gems not to be missed.”
An invitation extended to all fans and not just by the person who is also the curator of the exhibition: «In fact – said Marco Grasso – this is the first external exhibition in the history of Etna Comics. With this exhibition we retrace the history of TV with all the most loved comic book characters in the world, such as Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and many others. A journey analyzed decade after decade through an important era for our country and our culture. From today we will be here for three weeks and everyone will be able to visit this exhibition for a few more days even after the conclusion of the twelfth edition of the International Festival of Comics, Games and Pop Culture, which will take place from 6 to 9 June again at the exhibition center The Chimneys of Catania”.
The journey of the exhibition starts from the period in which there was the first announcement by the presenter Fulvia Colombo, on that historic 3 January 1954, when television radically changed the habits of our population: then people gathered in the homes of those who had lucky enough to own a TV, we became passionate about the first quiz shows, the hosts of variety shows became icons, entertainment and information programs multiplied, we grew up together with the protagonists of the small screen… up to the present day, with the advent of satellite and on-demand TV.
Topolino magazine has always been able to capture current trends and the evolution of society’s tastes. With the typical parodies of the stories of the most famous ducks and mice in the world, one can trace the path that TV has taken in all these years of evolution. Entertainment stars, comedians, actors, journalists and presenters have been “papered” to tell compelling and entertaining stories. Embellished with the original drawings by the master Giorgio Cavazzano, one of the most famous Disney comic authors in the world, and with homages specially created by other Mickey Mouse cartoonists, the “70 years of TV seen by Mickey Mouse” exhibition represents a guided journey through these seven decades , an authentic journey through time and into the customs of our country.
The exhibition will be open until June 16th, with free entry, from Monday to Saturday from 10am to 6pm and on Sunday from 10am to 1pm
On display it will be possible to find: original drawings by Giorgio Cavazzano and homages to TV created by the designers of “Mickey Mouse”, Massimo Asaro, Fabio Celoni, Sandro Dossi, Marco Gervasio, Francesco Guerrini, Alessandro Pastrovicchio and Emanuele Virzì.
The collaboration of Francesco Verni and the Cultural Association “Il Tempio della Nona Arte” is precious.
From 23 June to 28 July the exhibition can be visited at the “Spazio San Sebastiano”, in Piazza del Popolo n. 19 in Palazzolo Acreide (SR).
