a journey through time for the excellence of the Marche

Ancona, 25 May 2024 – The historic train of Italian Subappenninethe initiative promoted by the Councilor for Infrastructure of the Marche Region Francesco Baldelli and now in its third edition, has started rattling between the sea and the hills again.

A “Time travel” Between Ancona And Pergola which only last year transported thousands of tourist passengers coming not only from all over Italy, but also from abroad, to visit the cities, villages, landscapes and museums and to taste the food and wine excellences of the Marche. “A concrete response to that “experiential” tourism which is experiencing strong growth in Italy – comments the regional councilor for Infrastructure Francesco Baldelli – and which meets the strategies of the Marche Region to deseasonalize the offer aimed at tourists who like to visit our region not only in summer. An initiative that proved successful and attracted many tourists eager to discover the beauties of the Marche”.

The program

This morning, at 9.40 am, right on time at platform 1 West of the station Anconahe left “Cento Porte” convoycarriages Thirties polished by the great work of the technicians FS Italiane Foundation.

The inaugural ride, attended by 300 passengers, including groups fromUmbria and fromAbruzzo, and a delegation of journalists from the Italian press specialized in the sector, planned, as per tradition, visits to the museums of the Ca’ Bernardi Sulfur Mine in Sassoferrato and the Dorati Bronzes in Pergola, tastings on the train and stops in some restaurants in the localities in the internal territories. “Today the railway tourist season starts Ancona-Fabriano-Pergola – adds the engineer Luigi Cantamessa, general director of the FS Foundation –. A railway that is unique: ancient then destroyed by terrible flood and completely rebuilt. An infrastructure at the service of tourism, but also with a view to the return of ordinary trains. This is why today is a celebration which sees railway workers and citizens returning along the tracks of the Italian Subappennine, along the typical toll booths, the stations, around the steam locomotive, the Centoporte carriages. It would not have been possible without the determined will of the Infrastructure Department of the Marche Region and in general of the Region which is truly focusing on rail transport”.

There Marche region has decided to renew this new tourism experience for 2024, enriching it with a program of benefits 30 runs and some innovative formats such as cruise train which we will reveal in the next few weeks.”
