“We are working for Brindisi, it deserves attention”

BRINDISI – The city of Brindisi, precisely because of its history, deserves “particular attention from the Government”. This was declared by Raffaele Fitto, Minister for European Affairs, Cohesion Policies, the South and the Pnrr of the executive led by Giorgia Meloni, during a visit to the Adriatic capital. The declarations arrive just as the city is experiencing crises in the various industrial sectors, historically rooted in the area, a crisis which jeopardizes – among other things – the employment of a very high number of workers.

The Salento minister is in Brindisi for an electoral appointment in view of the next European elections. “We are working to put in place tools of a general nature first and foremost, I am thinking of the single special economic zone, the opportunities of the Pnrr and the revision interventions on the European Cohesion policy front. Certainly Brindisi for its history from an industrial and entrepreneurial point of view deserves special attention from the government”, he declared, responding to a question from journalists about the possibility of signing a “program agreement”.

The minister then added: “We will make a comparison both at an institutional level but also in the context of the opportunities that can be created in the reconversion process. This morning (Saturday 25 May 2024, ed.) I was at Cetma where we thought a lot about the opportunities of support for our production system in terms of innovation and research. We need to put in place tools capable of providing this type of response.”

Fitto then spoke about the G7, which will also take place in June in the Brindisi area, from the perspective of the Meloni executive: at the latest political actions “there was talk everywhere about the fact that Giorgia Meloni would not have been capable of representing our country, which would have been It’s a disaster to have Giorgia Meloni as a guide for Italy. To think that we are just a few weeks away from the G7 summit with the Italian presidency and to talk about all the results of this year and a half at the international level of Giorgia Meloni and her government, I think it represents a confirmation of how political debates are often instrumental and not true of what Giorgia Meloni is carrying out”.
