In Athens, Rocco Marcelli, trained since he was a child at the La Luna Dance Center in Ancona, where he obtained the European qualification with the professional dance course authorized by the Marche Region and where he currently holds hip hop and break dance courses, is busy holding lessons at the prestigious KSOT National Academy for two weeks.

During this period, Rocco is composing a choreography in his personal urban style for the talented students of the Academy, coming from all over Greece. This choreography will be presented in three shows organized by the Municipality of Athens as part of the This Is Athens City Festival, which will be held in three splendid locations in the city:

May 29 at the National Gardens
May 30 in Omonia Square
May 31 at the National Archeological Museum

Rocco Marcelli has just returned as a dancer from a tour in New York with the Luna Dance Theater collective and was invited to Athens as a choreographer and teacher by the director of the KSOT National Academy, Daphnis Kokkinos, historic dancer of Pina Bausch’s Tanztheater Wuppertal and his ex assistant.

Cristiano Marcelli, president and director of La Luna Dance Center: “The director Daphnis Kokkinos, watching Rocco dance, told me that he was struck by the fluidity and clarity of his movement, so he had the idea of inviting him to Athens to allow the students of his academy to experiment with new expressive possibilities. His idea of introducing an urban style into a national contemporary dance academy was revolutionary and, judging by the results that I see materialize day after day in the dance studio and by the enthusiasm that can be felt, it is a successful bet. The fact that this happens through a young teacher and choreographer from Ancona, trained at Luna, I believe can be an inspiration and encouragement in our community for all the other girls and boys who, like him, work hard every day to refine and express their talents”.
