Illegal eviction in Savorito: decisive action by the police

Evictions at Savorito: Over the course of two days, precisely from 21 to 23 May 2023, the evictions of nine illegal dwellings located inside the Savorito Social Center in Castellammare di Stabia were carried out. This action was taken in response to preventive seizure decrees issued by the Judge for preliminary investigations of the Court of Torre Annunziata, at the request of the Public Prosecutor’s Office.

The homes in question, owned by the Municipality, had been illegally occupied by as many families. The eviction plan was developed by the Provincial Committee for public order and safety, chaired by the Prefect of Naples, in collaboration with the Extraordinary Commission of the Municipality of Castellammare di Stabia.

The clearance operations were conducted jointly by various law enforcement agencies, including the State Police, Carabinieri, Guardia di Finanza and Municipal Police, with the coordination of the director of the State Police Commissariat of Castellammare di Stabia.

The eviction was necessary to implement the preventive seizure and to put an end to illegal occupations which had continued for years, despite the non-residential use of the properties concerned. At the end of the eviction action, the Municipality took steps to make them unusable to prevent further illegal occupations.

It is important to underline that the entire building complex is destined for demolition as part of a broader redevelopment project of the Savorito district. This operation not only aims to restore legality in the management of public heritage, but also to improve the living conditions and aesthetic appearance of the affected area.
