Ragusa, the municipal clock located on the top of the cathedral’s façade has been stopped for a year and a half

The municipal clock located on the top of the facade of the cathedral, in Piazza San Giovanni, has not been working since December 2022. The disservice was reported by some citizens to the political and cultural association Ragusa in Movimento.

“Apparently – underlines the president of the association, Mario Chiavola, who has researched the issue – there would have been a series of problems linked to the lack of electricity in a nearby cabin. Among other things, these same problems would have caused imbalances in the new lighting of the bell tower. So, an overall disservice that actually lasted a year and a half. We informed ourselves and learned that something should happen with the spending plan of the Ibla law which has just been approved in the City Council given that economic resources would have been allocated precisely to resolve these problems. Let’s hope this is really the case even if we don’t understand why it took all this time to try to remedy a significant inconvenience given that we are talking about the city’s main clock and given that it could also become an attraction for tourists who visit this area of the city. Unfortunately, this anomaly also does not do honor to our historic center. We therefore urge the municipal administration to initiate the desired procedures as soon as possible. And we hope that everything can be resolved by the summer.”
