Bari, an FI candidate convicted of embezzlement

BARI – As the slogan for his run for Municipality 1 of Bari he chose “Change to improve”. And actually, as far as it seems, there might be something to improve. Because Natale Roglieri, 40 years old, a candidate in the ranks of Forza Italia, has a small problem. A sentence of one year and 8 months, with a suspended sentence and no mention, negotiated for the charge of embezzlement.

The case arose in one of the many streams of the events of the Banca Popolare di Bari where Roglieri had worked for some time as Luigi Jacobini’s driver before taking on – on behalf of an entrepreneur from Bari – the role of sole director of a financial company which deals with investments. The position was held from November 2020 to July 2021, without management delegations, until the company was sold. At that point the owners realized that Roglieri had emptied the company’s current account, making transfers for 25 thousand euros in ten days. Unauthorized payments, which apparently also served to cover the purchase of furniture from a supplier in Rome.

This is why in October 2021 the owners of the company filed a complaint with the Bari Prosecutor’s Office. The investigations, conducted by prosecutor Desirèe Digeronimo, led to the indictment of the 40-year-old from Bari who – says the indictment – “abusing the relationship of work” would have appropriated the money of the company he managed. In February last year, the preliminary hearing judge Anna Perrelli ratified the plea bargain proposal put forward by Roglieri with the favorable opinion of the Prosecutor’s Office, recognizing the equivalence between the generic mitigating circumstances and the contested aggravating circumstance. However, the money was not returned: the man appears to have nothing. And therefore the first to cheer for him will be the owner of the company: if he were to be elected, Roglieri will have a salary to garnish.
