The Province also appeals to the TAR

The Municipality and Province of Viterbo are opposing, with appeals to the Lazio Regional Administrative Court, the transfer of Roman waste to the Monterazzano landfill. The city administration presented two, which concern the substantial modification of the integrated environmental authorization (AIA) of last April and the impact assessment procedure.

The Province also appeals to the TAR

To these appeals was added that of Palazzo Gentili, whose president, Alessandro Romoli, explained yesterday, together with the mayor Chiara Frontini in the Benedetti room of the institution in via Saffi, that it is “a battle of the territory, not ideological nor party or politics”. In fact, the President of the Province believes that the objective of “not becoming Lazio’s landfill” prevails over any “supply chain” logic, that is, belonging to a party, Forza Italia, which is in the majority in the Lazio Region, an entity against which I am appeals have been addressed. And which, as Mayor Frontini highlights, does not respect its own programming indications, consisting in the statement that each Lazio province should have its own landfill without burdening other people’s territories.

Romoli expects “the Lazio Region to protect the territory”

In particular the Viterbo area, whose needs, Romoli assures, “is already guaranteed” by the Monterazzano site, which however would become insufficient if other provinces – and the focus is on the main one, Rome – continued to deliver their waste there. Romoli expects “the Lazio Region to protect the territory”, especially if those who make up the majority of Pisana come from Viterbo. And that this issue does not generate a “political controversy, which is cloying and inappropriate”.

The mandate of the Provincial Council and the assembly of mayors is very clear

“These are not the last battles of the Mohicans”, assures the mayor. Strengthened by the fact that Arlena di Castro won her legal battle just two days ago: “A very important precedent”, notes Frontini. Moreover, the mandate expressed by the Provincial Council and the assembly of mayors is very clear, so much so that Romoli does not exclude that other mayors of the Viterbo area could soon join their battle: “It was a unanimous indication.” Of course, Romoli concedes, “the Lazio Region has objective difficulties in terms of waste disposal, but these – he observes – cannot be attributed either to the Province or to the Municipalities”.
