The management of unaccompanied foreign minors in the city requires structural and non-emergency solutions. Starting from this premise, the Prefect, Police Commissioner and Municipality of Udine met for a new discussion. We work on two intertwining fronts: on the one hand the prevention of phenomena of violence and illegality, on the other the promotion of integration paths.

As of 30 April, there were 716 unaccompanied foreign minors present in Friuli Venezia Giulia, 365 of whom were in the province of Udine. In the Friulian capital there are just under 200: Udine is among the twenty Italian cities where there are the most. Among the very first with respect to the number of inhabitants.

“Unaccompanied foreign minors – Mayor Alberto Felice De Toni explains to Telefriuli – in Italy can move freely from one city to another, without the need for any authorization. The young people who are in Udine contact via WhatsApp the peers they know who are elsewhere, inviting them to join them here”.

“We are laying the foundations – said the Prefect Domenico Lione at the end of the meeting – to start structural interventions on overall reception, which involve collaboration between multiple bodies and institutions, both public and private”. The proposals in the field range from street educational activities to Italian courses up to professional training. The issue of the shortage of qualified operators remains.

In the Prefecture there was talk of the need for synergistic action between the Region, the Municipality, the health company and the cooperatives that manage minors in the city.

“This theme – stated the Udine municipal councilor for health and social equity Stefano Gasparin – is intertwined with that of safety in the city. The actions and behaviors of these young people – he added – are those we see on the streets. We must address the situation radically and seriously, as we are doing. We must intensify our efforts – he concluded – to give citizens security and children the peace of mind of living in a peaceful reality. WATCH THE VIDEO
