Rimini, 22 May. (askanews) – Geopolitical tensions, the lack of glimmers of peace in too many countries around the world, the feeling that even politics is not doing enough to address Italy’s many urgencies. And then a sense of resignation that increasingly involves people and young people in particular. Nobody has simple recipes. The Rimini Meeting deploys music and art as tools to rediscover what is essential to becoming more aware of what makes our life truer and more creative. President Bernhard Scholz explained this at the Preview Meeting which took place on May 21st at the Galli Theater in Rimini.

“We live in a very difficult world, these objective difficulties tend to create a lot of resignation and indifference, they also reinforce distraction – Scholz explained to askanews -. Our question on the essential, asking important questions that concern social but also personal life, is decisive: only people who have a strong sense of responsibility based on freedom and strong convictions are capable of facing the great problems that await us head-on.”

Art is a universal language that has the enormous possibility of bringing people together even when other languages do not understand each other.

“We want to involve young people more and more as protagonists of the Meeting – continued Scholz -. This year’s theme is a question from McCarthy, famous American author ‘If we are not looking for the essential, then what are we looking for?'”.

Among the exhibitions scheduled are the history of the jubilees, the work of the American photographer Hatleberg and that of the American painter who lived in Italy Congdon. And again the current affairs of De Gasperi and the Christmas truce on the Western Front in 1914. Another exhibition will present social initiatives in Russian civil society today. The Holy Land will be at the center of an exhibition on the two basilicas of the Transfiguration, while the exhibition on the Flight into Egypt will present the places where the Holy Family passed and which are the object of a devotion that unites Christians and Muslims.

The inaugural show of the Meeting based on the work of the French writer Schmitt is also dedicated to the Holy Land. Hence an appeal for peace.

“I sincerely hope that more and more people find the courage and determination to enter into dialogue even where it seems impossible – concluded the president of the Meeting -. It depends on many individuals and on their freedom, on their responsibility, if we manage to overcome the conflicts that they afflict us.”

The program of the 2024 Meeting is completed by the Children’s Village, expanded in its proposals and spaces. The exhibition spaces have increased by over 6,000 m2 compared to the 2023 edition, the catering seats have been increased to 5,000, the bookshop will occupy 1,000 m2, and the partner companies will be 130.
