41st Montaquila Omelette Festival on 25th and 26th May

MONTAQUILA. The most awaited spring event in the Upper Volturno Valley returns on 25 April and 26 May 2024. The Montis Aquilis PromoSocial Association organizes the 41st edition of the Frittta Festival, scheduled in Montaquila. The last weekend of May, finally, will be the right one to propose the event that celebrates the typical dish of Montaquila and the Upper Volturno Valley. The undisputed protagonist of the festival will be the maxi omelette which this year will reach the incredible number of 1985 eggs used for its creation. Prepared starting from the early afternoon of the 25th to be ready after approximately 8 hours of cooking. On the afternoon of Sunday 26 May the maxi omelette will be accompanied along the streets of the town by a procession of Montaquilani in traditional clothes, accompanied by the Giuseppe Moffa di Riccia Folk Group and the Maitunate of the Gambafolk group.

As usual, the two days will offer much more in addition to the food and wine side: Montaquila is not a common festival, but a true celebration of spring, through the recall of traditions, slow tourism, the natural landscape, the rural culture of the past, of the habits and customs to be recalled, of belonging and popular music. The presence of great popular music is inevitable: the stage of the event will feature the Briganti dell’Appia Antica led by Pierluigi Moschitti, a “sacred monster” of world music from central Italy, from 8.30pm on Saturday 25th. Followed by Elettro Mascarimirì, a gem of the world music scene, capable of shining not only in the Italian context but also internationally. This is thanks to the unique and original sound, the result of more than 20 years of “Tradassociazione” – the idea of electro world music par excellence created by Claudio “Cavallo” Giagnotti, Salento musician producer with Roma origins, leader and founder of the band from 1998. Finally, on Sunday 26th starting from 8.30 pm, the closing concert will see the performance of I Trillanti – Tradizione 2.0, a group from Lazio that draws inspiration from the repertoire of Ciociaro and Italian oral tradition.

Debates and workshops are also planned in collaboration and with the participation of pupils from Montaquila’s primary and secondary schools. Finally, two large gatherings dedicated to enthusiasts of two wheels and horseback riding, trekking and guided tours in the historic center. All activities are by reservation! For years, the Festival and the Frittata Montaquilana have attracted the attention of thousands of visitors and many experts in the culinary sector but also in slow and naturalistic tourism and popular traditions. Among the many, the latest in chronological order is the most prestigious Italian culinary magazine, “Il Gambero Rosso”, dedicated two days to the celebration of a recipe which, deposited in 2005 at the Chamber of Commerce of Isernia and codified by the Italian Academy della Cucina, has been registered with the De.Co brand since 25 June 2019. An event which, following the verification of the requirements by the technical-scientific committee, was selected for the certification of Eccellenze Molise 2022 in the Traditions category. Don’t let me tell you! We are waiting for you to welcome you to the biggest spring festival in Molise!
