Sustainability Day: here are the winners

VITERBO – “On 15 May 2024, the seventh edition of Sustainability Day was held in the Aula Magna of the Rectorate of the University of Tuscia. After the greetings of the Magnificent Rector, Prof. Stefano Ubertini, of the City Councilor Francesca Pietrangeli, and Prof. Andrea Petroselli, delegate of the Rector in the field of Sustainability and at the RUS (Network of Universities for Sustainable Development), the morning began with the delivery ceremony of the FIDAPA – Unitus – BANCA LAZIO NORD Degree Award. This award is intended for master’s graduates of the University of Tuscia who obtained the title between 1 January 2023 and on February 29, 2024.

The Unitus students awarded by the Magnificent Rector, by the FIDAPA-Viterbo President Giuliana Ceso, and by Banca Lazio Nord were the following:

1st place: LAMIAA CHAB. Thesis: NEXUS OF RENEWABLE ENERGY, AGRICULTURE, AND FORESTRY: SYNERGIES AND CHALLENGES FOR SUSTAINABLE ENERGY TRANSITION

2nd place: KRISTINA CHANGELIA. Thesis: CLOSING THE LOOP: A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF CIRCULAR FOOD WASTE STRATEGIES IN EUROPEAN COUNTRIES

3rd place: MARTINA COMPAGNUCCI. Thesis: MEETING BETWEEN SUSTAINABILITY AND INNOVATION: CASE STUDY “MELAMETTO”

ALEXANDRA VITTI. Thesis: ANALYSIS OF INITIATIVES AND POLICIES ON FOOD WASTE AT EUROPEAN AND NATIONAL LEVELS

After the award ceremony, speeches were given by Dr. Serena Mattia, from the Save the Landscape – Defend the Territories Forum, with a report entitled “Consumed landscapes: the soil emergency and how to respond”, and by Dr. Raffaele Pelorosso from University of Tuscia, with a report entitled “Nature and/or city: solutions for more sustainable and inclusive urban systems”, Prof. Roberta Cimmaruta of the University of Tuscia, with a report entitled “Sustainability and conservation in marine environment”, and Dr. Francesco Cerini of the University of Tuscia, with a report entitled “Fantastic (aquatic) animals and where to find them: knowing and protecting the biodiversity of inland waters”. Subsequently, Dr. Claudia Palazzetti, Dr. Francesco Cerini, Dr. Emanuela Moroni and Dr. Vera Anelli gave a speech entitled “Imbastire il Futuro, Provincial Competition Sustainability according to us”, competition organized by Green Schools Network in collaboration with Unitus, University Museum System and Arci Solidarietà Viterbo. In this context, the winners were the following:

For upper secondary schools:

1st prize: Video created by the students of class 5A of the Mariano Buratti State Gymnasium High School, entitled SOSustainability.

2nd prize ex aequo: Video created by the students of 5 Am of the Liceo Musicale “S. Rose from Viterbo”.

2nd prize ex aequo: Video created by the Meucci Institute of Ronciglione.

Special mention to the work organized by the students of the IIA of the Vincenzo Cardarelli Higher Education Institute of Tarquinia.

For lower secondary schools:

1st prize: Video “We planted it, to be sustainable, you drop it too!” 1A, 1B, 1C, 1E, Fantappié

2nd prize Three videos from the “Ruffini di Valentano” school: “The world of Agarti”, “Close encounters of the third kind, a strange case of bullying”, “The return of Volta”.

3rd prize Video “Life and colors of Viterbo: an urban show” 3A Tecchi (Carmine).

Special mention: Reel The reuse gang” by 3F IC “Ettore Sacconi” from Tarquinia.

For primary schools and nursery schools:

1st prize: Podcast 2A A.Volta primary school

2nd prize Video “Generative artisanal intelligence”, 2B Ellera

3rd prize Videogame 5B “Ruffini” by Valentano

Special mention: San Pietro nursery school

The day, which was attended by around 150 people, ended with a Workshop dedicated to the participants of Imbastire il Futuro, the Provincial Competition “Sustainability according to us”, moderated by Umberto Cinalli, ARCI Solidarietà Viterbo.”
